Planning your launch in Germany
Card is not the default in Germany — plan the payment mix first
Budget your restaurant’s own ordering website and apps in euro, from a single Imbiss to a multi-city group. The EUR location ladder is the same across the euro area, and every in-store app is included at every size.
PayPal and bank methods alongside cards
German customers pay online with PayPal and bank methods far more than most markets. PayPal is not a listed platform integration: Stripe documents it as a method European businesses can enable, so scope it separately and confirm the enabled methods before you print a QR code that promises them.
Delivery areas by postcode
Use real Postleitzahlen and delivery radii in the demo, with your minimum order values and delivery charges. Test a pickup order and a delivery order with a tip and a refund.
Receipts and fiscal review
Bring your receipt requirements, including the different VAT rates for eating in and taking away, to the demo and review the configured output with your Steuerberater. A software subscription does not determine your fiscal obligations.

VAT on restaurant and takeaway food in Germany
The Federal Ministry of Finance states that restaurant and catering services, excluding drinks, have been taxed at a permanently reduced 7% since 1 January 2026; takeaway food was already 7%. A dish now carries 7% whether it is eaten in or taken away, while drinks stay at the standard 19%.
| What is sold | Rate |
|---|---|
| Food eaten in the restaurant | 7% |
| Takeaway and delivered food | 7% |
| Drinks | 19% |
Rates as published by the Federal Ministry of Finance, checked . This is general information, not tax advice; your accountant confirms the treatment of your menu, and the Supaorder subscription does not set it.

A restaurant launch checklist for Germany
Six things to settle at the demo and test before the first live order, drawn from how customers in Germany pay, order and expect to be kept informed.
-
Run one order end to end on each live payment path (Stripe, Stripe Terminal, Cash, card on delivery, card terminal) — success, decline and refund.
-
Name the on-request integrations your customers expect at the demo — PayPal, SEPA Direct Debit / Klarna — so the quote carries their scope and timeline.
-
Enable the storefront languages customers need (German) with reviewed translations.
-
Route order updates where customers read them (Email and WhatsApp) and send a test message before launch.
-
Decide the delivery model — Uber Direct, Shipday, Google Maps — and test a real address, a delivery zone edge and a cash-on-delivery reconciliation.
-
Bring your receipt and tax requirements to the demo; the subscription does not set them. Position against Lieferando, Wolt and Uber Eats with your own channel’s zero commission.
