Planning your launch in Sweden

Swish first, cards second

Budget a Swedish restaurant’s own ordering website and apps in kronor, with pickup, delivery and the in-store apps on one location fee. SEK is a published price for Sweden, and Paytrail is on the integration list for the Nordics.

Swish at checkout

Stripe documents Swish as a payment approved in the Swish app and confirmed after the customer returns. It is built on request; if scoped, start the kitchen only after confirmation and test an abandoned payment.

Cards and Klarna

Card and wallet checkout is the tested baseline; Klarna is scoped work. Confirm the enabled methods before printing a QR code that promises them.

Moms and receipts

Bring your VAT receipt requirements and allergen wording to the demo and review the configured receipt with your accountant; the subscription does not set your tax treatment.

Payment availability reference: Stripe Swish. Regional guidance reviewed . Confirm current provider eligibility during onboarding.

On the receipt · moms (mervärdesskatt)

VAT on restaurant and takeaway food in Sweden

Skatteverket cut VAT on food from 12% to 6% from 1 April 2026 until 31 December 2027; takeaway counts as food, but restaurant and catering services stay at 12%. The same dish therefore carries 12% eaten in and 6% collected, and alcohol is 25% either way.

What is sold Rate
Food eaten in the restaurant or café 12%
Takeaway food 6%
Spirits, wine and strong beer 25%

Eat-in and takeaway take different rates here. Bring a dine-in order and a takeaway order to the demo and confirm how both rates will be configured and printed on receipts before you launch.

Rates as published by Skatteverket, the Swedish Tax Agency, checked . This is general information, not tax advice; your accountant confirms the treatment of your menu, and the Supaorder subscription does not set it.

Before you go live

A restaurant launch checklist for Sweden

Six things to settle at the demo and test before the first live order, drawn from how customers in Sweden pay, order and expect to be kept informed.

  1. Run one order end to end on each live payment path (Stripe, Stripe Terminal, Cash, card on delivery, card terminal) — success, decline and refund.

  2. Name the on-request integrations your customers expect at the demo — Swish, Klarna — so the quote carries their scope and timeline.

  3. Enable the storefront languages customers need (Swedish and English) with reviewed translations.

  4. Route order updates where customers read them (SMS and email) and send a test message before launch.

  5. Decide the delivery model — Shipday, Google Maps — and test a real address, a delivery zone edge and a cash-on-delivery reconciliation.

  6. Bring your receipt and tax requirements to the demo; the subscription does not set them. Position against Foodora and Uber Eats with your own channel’s zero commission.
