Planning your launch in Japan
Review Japanese content and yen-denominated order flows
Plan your restaurant’s own ordering channel in Japanese yen, with the location fee covering the ordering apps and in-store suite. Use this Japan price list for direct-customer budgeting and confirm the payment, language and operating scope before onboarding.
Japanese menu and address inputs
Test Japanese text, menu modifiers and the address fields your customers will use. Include building and unit details and have a fluent reviewer check checkout messages and order notifications.
Local payment expectations
List the local wallets or other payment methods your buyers require and validate each on the deployed integration. Do not infer support for every Japanese method from a general Stripe integration.
Yen amounts and receipt output
Use sample whole-yen prices, discounts and refunds during testing. Bring your required receipt and tax presentation for review, including how the configured system rounds order totals.

On the receipt · consumption tax (shōhizei)
Consumption tax on restaurant and takeaway food in Japan
The National Tax Agency applies the reduced 8% rate to food and drink other than alcohol and eating out, so food eaten in is 10% while takeaway and delivery are 8%. A cabinet outline of 15 September 2026 proposes cutting the food rate to 1% from 1 April 2027 to 31 March 2029; it is not yet law, and eating out and alcohol would stay at 10%.
| What is sold | Rate |
|---|---|
| Food eaten in the restaurant | 10% |
| Takeaway and delivered food | 8% |
| Alcoholic drinks | 10% |
Eat-in and takeaway take different rates here. Bring a dine-in order and a takeaway order to the demo and confirm how both rates will be configured and printed on receipts before you launch.
Rates as published by the National Tax Agency, checked . This is general information, not tax advice; your accountant confirms the treatment of your menu, and the Supaorder subscription does not set it.

Before you go live
A restaurant launch checklist for Japan
Six things to settle at the demo and test before the first live order, drawn from how customers in Japan pay, order and expect to be kept informed.
-
Run one order end to end on each live payment path (Stripe, Stripe Terminal, Cash, card on delivery, card terminal) — success, decline and refund.
-
Name the on-request integrations your customers expect at the demo — PayPay, Konbini payment, LINE messaging — so the quote carries their scope and timeline.
-
Enable the storefront languages customers need (Japanese) with reviewed translations.
-
Route order updates where customers read them (LINE and email) and send a test message before launch.
-
Decide the delivery model — Uber Direct, Shipday, Google Maps — and test a real address, a delivery zone edge and a cash-on-delivery reconciliation.
-
Bring your receipt and tax requirements to the demo; the subscription does not set them. Position against Uber Eats, Demae-can and Wolt with your own channel’s zero commission.
